Ashley Judd, Dr. Jen Welter and Dr. Ken Snyder Named Honorees at Arizona Foundation for Women Awards Luncheon, March 26th in Phoenix

Arizona Foundation for Women has selected Dr. Jen Welter as the recipient of its Voice of Women Award and Phoenix local, Dr. Ken Snyder, as the recipient of its Marilyn R. Seymann Award.

Dr. Welter and Dr. Snyder will receive their respective awards on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the Arizona Biltmore, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, during the Foundation’s annual awards luncheon. Ashley Judd will be recognized with the Sandra Day O’Connor Lifetime Achievement Award. Early sponsors include Southwest Airlines and VIAD Corp.

“Dr. Welter and Dr. Snyder have both proved to be invaluable advocates for women in Arizona and we are so excited to recognize their efforts,” said Arizona Foundation for Women CEO Mesha Davis. “Both the Voice of Women and Marilyn R. Seymann Awards are incredibly important to our organization and we could not have imagined more worthy honorees.”

The Voice of Women Award is given to an individual who has demonstrated an ability to inform the public of women’s issues by making education and knowledge of said issues accessible, with responsibility and action.

Dr. Jen Welter was the first female NFL coach.  In addition, she is a gold medalist, inspirational speaker and former NFL player. She encourages women to pursue their passions, especially in male-dominated fields. She hosts football camps and recently released the book “Play Big,” on pushing past limits and facing life’s challenges. Welter also holds a doctorate in psychology and a master’s in sports psychology.

The Marilyn R. Seymann Award is named after the founder of the Arizona Foundation for Women and was created to honor an Arizonan who has made a difference in the lives of women and children in the state.

Dr. Ken Snyder has served as the dental director and pediatric dentist at The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Dental Clinic and the satellite children’s program at the Chandler Care Center for 22 years. The clinic aids women who have been victims of domestic violence by providing them with a career path in dental assisting that will help them transition back into society. It also has a “Mother’s Kiss Program” that restores pregnant women in need’s oral health to ensure they deliver a healthy baby.

Arizona Foundation for Women’s mission is to advance the status of Arizona’s women through research, advocacy and philanthropy to ensure their safety, health and economic independence. Domestic violence, sexual abuse and human trafficking are a few areas of focus for the foundation.
